The ISM was in agreement that we select Wellbeing for Self School Evaluation. We participated in a 6 step approach which was discussed at a staff meeting. This included defining the problem, brainstorming solutions, analysing our options, choosing a solution, creating a plan and in time we will evaluate our plan.
Two staff members attended CPD at Clare Education Centre. Next, we sought Oide support. The next step involved the whole staff choosing two statements of effective practice and actions decided. A committee of four staff members and pupils from 4th to 6th was created to establish further ideas and hear the children’s’ voice.
We made the decision to go with the Weaving Wellbeing Programme in Spring/Summer Term. The staff had further CPD from Fiona Foreman, the author of this engaging programme. We agreed Classes would be given Weaving Well Being homework with a view to pupils telling their parents about the helpful content. Books were bought for all children using a specific fundraiser (Colours Day) and a small contribution from parents was sought too.
All staff have been informed about the Employee Assistance Service to help their own well being. Joe O’Connell delivered a wonderful presentation to all staff on Dignity in Work. We will have further guest speakers in the areas of mindfulness/stress management. Our staff are encouraged to attend school related social events to encourage bonding and teamwork. We facilitate wellbeing check in and update on SSE in all staff meetings.
It was agreed that A Well Being week would be held in June. Information was shared on X and through principal newsletters. A local singer/musician has volunteered to take classes in groupings to teach them 2 feel good songs over the week. Each day there will be a theme e.g Mindful Monday and the Well being committee has created a suite of wonderful resources to use. The mobile farm will be another highlight of the week. We look forward to the week with excitement.
